Observer Corps Resources

Welcome!

Emphasizing government transparency, Observer Corps have been part of Leagues nationwide for decades. olunteers act as the League’s eyes and ears at public meetings, actively identifying community issues, concerns, and trends that inform League programs and actions.

Typically, Observer Corps members attend public agency meetings, take notes, and prepare brief, factual, and unbiased reports highlighting both agency decisions and the openness of proceedings. However, observation programs are flexible—Leagues structure them to suit their specific goals, needs, and resources and decide how best to use the reports collected. For example, one Indiana League supports participation in a community-based monitoring program rather than running its own.

This page facilitates sharing observation program ideas, resources, and tools among Indiana Leagues and includes links to online sources plus practical tools contributed by Indiana Leagues, available for use or adaptation by Indiana Leagues.

League leaders are invited to fill out a brief Observer Corps Survey to share information about their League’s program and needs.
